It’s All SEO & Google
In all honesty, we all look to Google for approval even though Yahoo and Bing are following not far behind. But, while you are looking for a new favorite restaurant or vacation spot the word that is often interchangeable as a verb is Google. As in, “Let me just Google it.” As a business, you want to be at the top of that list. The best way to ensure your prime placement is prime SEO (Search Engine Optimization). The standard is being set, and you may need a basic tutorial to freshen up on what you should be looking for in 2015.
Let’s start by looking at the user experience. Most people will start by saying SEO (search engine optimization) is about keyword placement. SEO is the total package and what Google and all the other search engines are adjusting for is total usability.
If you start by focusing on the user experience while simultaneously weaving SEO into the fabric of your digital marketing tapestry – you will have the full package. If you are expecting to hold any clout with Google, then you better have a quality user experience and not just “good” SEO.
- Page Content
- Optimization Balance
Stopping the Manipulators
Google is working hard to create more and more complicated programming to stop manipulators. It’s not so much about trying to play the system and find ways around the algorithms.
If you believe in your company, product, or service, then Google wants YOU! It’s that simple. Now you just need to invest in yourself and show Google why they should believe in you too.
If you get caught trying to manipulate. It’s a waste of your valuable time and can end up costing you not only your precious reputation but precious future placement!
When in doubt – don’t!
The best advice is to do your homework of course. It’s a trial and error process and takes a while to grasp the full extent of SEO to find what works for your particular needs. If it seems overwhelming, hire someone experienced in following the rules. But there are a few easy tried and true tips:
- Check and recheck for broken links on your site
- Duplicate Content (Google likes variety and while they may not say “penalty” you may find yourself shuffled to the bottom)
- KEEP IT SIMPLE … Remember it’s also about the user, not just computers!
- Keep it original: copying someone else’s work will not get you higher in the search result (Chances are they are already ahead of you!)
- Be transparent and you will rank! (Google will take notice as you generate traffic. They send out more and more “feelers” and as are transparent about your intent as a website your rank will improve.)
It’s All in Your Approach
While I stress not to dismiss SEO as all about keywords, don’t dismiss the keyword element. Without this element, we lose a major chunk of search engine optimization also. There is a give and take process. Without words, we lose our content!
There is more to keywords than simply slapping them on a page of course. Do your research and look at your competition. See what they are already doing and what is working within your genre. You can find keyword research tools until you become more experienced at generating keywords.
